Dr Nikos Tsigaras

Dr Tsigaras is an experienced and highly qualified Counselling Psychologist offering modern counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families. He provides an ethical and confidential service based on cutting edge psychological research and tailored to your individual needs.

He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and chartered with the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Dr Tsigaras has worked for many years in the NHS with the full spectrum of needs in primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings with outpatients and inpatients, individuals, groups, and families. He holds a Masters in the theory of Psychoanalysis which assists him in understanding how early experiences and an individual’s life history can illuminate present difficulties. He has also obtained a Masters in Occupational Psychology which informs him of the effect of work, or lack of it, on an individual’s well-being.

Like most psychologists, he is trained to assess and deliver different models of therapy based on an individual’s needs. This means that he draws on different frameworks to best help each person.

Dr Tsigaras has a special interest in relationship difficulties in individuals, often resulting from childhood trauma or neglect. A significant portion of his private practice is dedicated to couples therapy.

Mothers who are experiencing perinatal difficulties (e.g. postnatal depression) are especially welcome in his clinic.
He also has extensive experience of helping with different forms of anxiety and depression, especially in the context of work related stress. Many people may experience depression as a loss of meaning or direction, chronic feelings of emptiness, boredom or agitation. Others may experience suicidal feelings or self-harm. Anxiety too can take many recognisable forms.
