Martina is a highly qualified Clinical and Counselling Psychologist. Ten years of training gained her a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Clinical and Community Psychology from the Salesian Pontifical University of Rome, and an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies accredited by the University of East London, Professional Practice in Psychology licensing examination (Psy.D) at La Sapienza University of Rome. As befits this level of qualification, she is registered with the leading professional organisations within the UK and Italy. She is also Chartered with The Italian Psychological Society.
Her specialist subject is in Clinical, Community and Developmental Psychology, specifically including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, covering five distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology. She has also studied techniques for working with people with eating disorders and body dysmorphia, and preclinical psychodynamic and systemic training on work with children, adolescents and families. She also completed the Foundation Course and the Post-Foundation Course at the Institute of Psychoanalysis in London.
This is her base for both individual and group psychological therapies, which she has used working in leading institutions in the City of London, including the National Healthcare System, Local Authorities, Private Practice and Charities. This therapeutic experience covers working with under 5s and their parents, children, adolescents, adults, older adults, couples and families experiencing a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Martina has at her disposal various structured therapy programmes and counselling techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Mentalization-based Treatment (MBT), Psychodynamic Counselling, Play Therapy, Parent-Infant Therapy, Parent-Child Therapy, Gestalt and Humanistic Therapy.
Martina’s recent work includes interventions in cases of anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorders, dysfunctional family issues, neurodevelopmental issues, learning disabilities, self-harm, eating disorders, suicide and parental abuse. I am highly skilled in assessing and treating severe psychological disorders, especially avoidant and borderline personality disorder as well as addiction and eating disorders.
